Since September 2025, Google's AI Mode has been available in Spanish in Colombia and the rest of Latin America. It is a tab inside the search engine where, instead of a list of links, Gemini writes a complete answer with cited sources and lets you keep asking questions like in a chat. It also accepts questions by voice or with a photo.
For business owners, the question is obvious: if Google answers directly, who is going to visit my website?
How it works under the hood
AI Mode uses a technique Google calls query fan-out: it splits the user's question into several subtopics, runs searches in parallel and builds a single answer from what it finds. At the end, it shows the sites it used as sources.
That means two things:
- There will be fewer "drive-by" clicks. Simple questions get answered without leaving Google.
- The clicks you do get are worth more. Someone who comes in from a cited source already knows the basics and is looking to hire, compare or buy.
The goal is no longer just "ranking first", but being one of the sources the AI chooses to cite.
Five tweaks for your website
- Answer real questions, straight to the point. An FAQ section with clear two- or three-sentence answers is exactly the kind of content AI can cite.
- Say what you do, where and for whom. Services, city, reference prices and opening hours in text, not just in images.
- Use structured data. Schema.org markup (business, services, FAQs, articles) tells Google exactly what each thing is.
- Show your expertise. Real cases, figures, testimonials and visible authors: Google favors trustworthy sources.
- Mind speed and mobile. A slow site, or one that is hard to read on a phone, loses to the competition, with or without AI.
A website is no longer just a brochure for people: it is also the source machines learn about your business from.
